KLEINMOND – Popular DA speaker of the Overstrand and ward councillor for Kleinmond, Grant Cohen is leaving politics. When approached for comment this morning, Cohen did not want to be drawn on the subject and said there were still ongoing party political processes before a final announcement would be made, but we have it on good authority that he has decided to step back from politics and that the hunt for a successor is on.
Whoever the DA decides on has big shoes to fill. The young Cohen, who was first elected to office in 2016 and in 2021 became Speaker of the Overstrand, was well liked and respected across all communities. He was one of the first local politicians to effectively deploy social media and has built a big following in the process. Cohen is also known for his work in the community.
